CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER – FULL TIME
Job Description: Keep the organization running smoothly and cost-effectively while supporting our mission and outreach. Coordinate appointments with the community, vendors, suppliers and, occasionally, donors and sponsors. Hire staff and freelance contractors, negotiate contracts. Guide work for team projects. Develop and manage budget. Manage LALA mobile restaurant and financial operations. Salary range: $40,000 to $60,000 depending upon experience, plus benefits.
Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, hotel and restaurant management, nonprofit management, or related field, or equivalent proven experience. Must understand nonprofit and restaurant industries.
Skills: Strong organizational and communication skills. Solid understanding of nonprofits, grant-writing and proposals, and restaurant management. Experience with web design, social media and other technology a plus. Bilingual a plus. Compassion a must.
CLASS FACILITATORS (TEACHERS) – FULL TIME
Job Description: We are hiring three full-time teachers to facilitate our core Yo Sí Puedo adult literacy and numeracy classes in New Mexico. The job involves extensive in-state travel, with potential for 2 or 3 nights away per week 20 weeks a year. Teaching schedule is modest, with only about 6 total hours per week spent in the classroom; additional hours will be spent conducting research and outreach in the communities we serve, including home visits with students and their families; survey collection and analysis in the communities at large; tracking program success; continuing personal education in adult literacy instruction; interfacing with food banks. Facilitators should live in the Albuquerque metro area. In our first year, you will teach for 40 weeks – 20 weeks in Albuquerque, 10 weeks in Columbus, NM; and 10 weeks in Las Vegas, NM. Salary range $38,000 to $55,000 per year depending upon experience, plus an annual $1400 stipend for gas and vouchers for 60 free stays at hotel of our choosing per year, in our remote teaching locations. Education: Master’s degree or PhD required, in any field, with preference given to degrees in education, Latin American studies, Latino/Chicano studies, psychology, social work or communications. Minimum 5 years teaching or counseling experience. If you’re exceptionally good at teaching, and love our mission, we might be open to accepting equivalent experience in lieu of higher degrees.
Skills: Fluent in English and Spanish. Willing to train in, and follow, the Yo Sí Puedo program. Minimum 5 years of experience teaching or counseling others, with preference given to those who’ve worked with adults. Public speaking, listening, compassion for at-risk communities, respect for others, patience, listening. Must have a valid New Mexico driver’s license and clean driving record. Must own a car. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
LITERARY FESTIVAL COORDINATOR – FULL TIME
Job Description: Diplomatic, organized and meticulously detail-oriented person needed to coordinate our annual LALA Literary Festival. You will be responsible for coordinating all details of the yearly event, as well as for seeking out funding sources and, in some cases, writing grant proposals or meeting the sponsors and donors. Works closely with the Executive Director, Business and Operations Manager, and the Board of Directors to coordinate festival details with presenters, sponsors, venues, attendees, media and booksellers – including but not limited to: budgeting and invoicing; planning menus and conference/presentation schedules; booking talent; booking flights and lodging; booking ground transportation; designing and editing promotional materials; creating blog content; engaging writers, readers and potential attendees through social media; creating and maintaining an online registration portal for attendees; building and managing separate direct email lists for journalists, sponsors, presenters and attendees. You will need to be familiar with Latina authors working in English and Spanish, and should have a love of literature and be able to speak authoritatively about it. Yes, we are asking a lot of you! Education & Experience: At least a bachelor’s degree in business administration, hospitality management, advertising, marketing, literature, creative writing, English, Spanish or related field preferred, but we will consider other degrees. CHEF – FULL TIME
Job Description: We are seeking an extremely creative and flexible experienced chef to develop and prepare culturally appropriate dinner recipes for our adult literacy students in a variety of towns and cities, many with large Hispanic and immigrant populations. You will be working out of a well equipped mobile food truck with your assistant, serving a free catered evening meal to about 250 people a night, twice a week. During the rest of your work week you will sell breakfast and lunch in urban areas to help raise money for the organization. You will be based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but will travel six months out of the year. Salary range: $35,000 to $45,000, plus a $2000 yearly gas stipend and three nights free lodging in rural satellite sites during time spent there. Medical and dental benefits.
Skills: At least five years experience as a head chef. Formal training preferred but not required. Must specialize in Mexican, New Mexican and Latin American cuisine. Bilingual preferred.
CHILD CARE WORKERS – PART TIME
Job description: Seeking 12 part-time child care workers in Albuquerque, NM; Columbus, NM; and Las Vegas, NM, to watch children from birth to 17, twice a week for about 3 hours each time, or a total of 6 hours per week. Job in Albuquerque will last 20 weeks per year; jobs in Columbus and Las Vegas will last 10 weeks. Must have a high school diploma. Must be a proficient prose reader. No criminal record. Must be willing to assist older children with homework. Must be fluent in Spanish and English. $12 per hour.
PREP COOKS – PART TIME
Job Description: Seeking three part-time prep cooks to assist our Chef on the LALA Food Truck, one in Albuquerque, one in Columbus, NM; and one in Las Vegas, NM. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, and at least two years of experience. We will also consider hiring just one very flexible person full time, who is willing to travel. Bilingual a plus. $10 per hour.
